Introduction, Motivation of the Topic

Empowerment is a provision of required tools to help render positive motivation amongst the diversified population such as women, men, and working individuals and people in general (Dhillon et al., 2020). These involve the provision of knowledge, and skills so that they can take the initiative and become more proactive in managing their daily professional and personal lives. Depending on the kind of empowerment that suits the individual they can either be social, individual, educational, gender, political, economic, physical or psychological empowerment, the decisions are to be taken. In this connection, the decision-making in India in terms of women empowerment is observed that the nation ranks at 131st level out of the 188 nations as per the United Nations Development Program's Human Development Report 2016 in terms of the gender inequality index (Mishra et al., 2021). Thus, India can be termed to be positioned as a medium category in terms of decision-making and empowerment.

Presentation of the Hypothesis/statement/finding to be criticised

The problem with the statement is that, although empowerment is the goal towards proper decision-making for women in India it does not guarantee everyone who has been empowered to be the best decision-maker, nor does it equalize differences when it comes to skills and experiences. This is in the case of empowerment towards consensus decision making which, not only is time-consuming but also, they are controlled by the rigid members in the organization even though their decision is less important. Because of this, empowerment does sometimes fail due to poor organizational structures and regulations/norms that support empowered decision-making (Parveen, 2023).

Evidence/Arguments in Favour of The Counter-position

An effective way as opposed to consensus decision-making is empowerment based on the distribution of power. The power or authority is distributed to the individuals based on their knowledge and skills regarding what the individuals are to make decisions based on. Each individual (be it a man or woman in India) needs to be empowered with the appropriate tools that would help them make the best decision for the company and the realization of the organization`s needs and vision (Sudatta Banerjee et al, 2023).

Discussion

Empowerment Failure in Consensus Decision-Making in Indian Organisation

The main reason for poor decision-making in India is the assumption that empowerment equals consensus decision-making in its organisation. Since every employee`s decision is needed, this will force them to do more research on various topics hoping to bring the best decisions, but even with their best research, their high-quality decisions might be left out for a poor-quality decision from the resistant members of the organization. This way, some women employees would feel disempowered because even with the best of their decisions, they are not even considered. Consensus decision-making is also time-consuming as it requires every employee to contribute to a single decision-making (Parveen, 2023).

Empowerment and Power Distribution in Decision Making

Distribution of power ensures high-quality decision-making. Each individual irrespective of gender, caste, colour, etc. should be assigned what to provide a decision on, depending on the knowledge and skills each individual is best known for. With this, a sense of empowerment and positive motivation is encouraged. Because each person feels positive based on what they are best known for, a high-quality decision is expected from them since each individual would take their humble time to make appropriate decisions well with the help of the existing knowledge and skills. (Sudatta Banerjee et al, 2023).

For this to be effective, there must be two dimensions, the type of the decision to be made, and the role of each individual concerning the type of decision in question. This makes it easy to decide on who to be assigned the role to decide on the specific area. Therefore, there must be a decision manager who assigns the decision roles. The persons empowered to provide decisions, would no longer require the approver since they would have learnt from them over time and they would have improved on their decision-making strategies, thus empowering the organization that they desire (Sudatta Banerjee et al, 2023).

Conclusion

In conclusion, a precise level of integrity, trust and competence in decision-making is important to be followed in the Indian nation and business organisations as a whole. Without this, the people (specifically, the women population) might end up losing confidence in the process and the people of interest. A good outline decision-making structure, with a well-defined method to select the individual of interest in terms of decision-making on who to make what kind of decision and why is of great essence. This is for the realization of an empowered nation and organization that people would not only desire but also admire.
