Introduction

The Director is concerned that his workplace has several sickness absences from employees. The number of absences has increased over the last year, and as such, he has expressed concern that the cost of sickness absences is taking up 5% of his employee's budget (Abdulhafedh, 2021). As the health and safety advisor, he has asked them to prepare a report outlining the benefits of an occupational health surveillance program. They will need to outline in the report how a health surveillance program would be of benefit and how it may operate. In the report, they will need to explain how a health surveillance program may be implemented and how this may help other management operations or policies (Al Dawood, 2022). Occupational health surveillance is a vital part of an organization's health and safety strategy and is designed to identify problems and monitor trends in an organization's working conditions. For this reason, it is essential that these programs cover all work-related activities and that they are implemented at the organizational level.

The health surveillance programs designed and implemented can vary in different organizations (Brundage et al. 2020). However, the program's purpose must be to detect potential health problems in the workplace, prevent illness and injury, and promote and maintain all employees' good health and safety. This report outlines the role of the Occupational Health Advisor in an organization as well as the function of the surveillance program. It will also include some health and safety considerations that should be addressed in the program (Casanueva et al. 2019). Employee absenteeism can be a major issue for organizations, affecting productivity and consuming a significant portion of the employee budget. The operations director has recognized this problem and is considering implementing an Occupational Health (OH) Surveillance Programmed to address it proactively. As the organization's health and safety advisor, they have been assigned to prepare a report explaining how such a program could benefit our employees and give suggestions on its operation.

Occupational health and safety is required to protect workers' physical well-being on the job (Delvika and Mustafa, 2019). With workplaces becoming more complex than ever, occupational hazards have increased significantly over time; thereby making it essential to ensure employees are safe while they perform their duties in any given workplace. According to Henderson et al. 2022 the importance of occupational health cannot be overstated, as its role includes identifying potential risk factors within various work environments which could cause damage or harm to personnel working there. Hence, employers must always take preventive measures. An example where they have seen this playing out in real life has been during the pandemic era, with COVID-19 outbreaks recorded at numerous factories worldwide due primarily from infected. Surfaces/human contacts without proper PPE among staff members inside those factories facilities.

Challenges facing safety professionals include keeping up-to-date regarding changing laws/regulations around worker protection practices, obtaining resources necessary for ensuring peak performance standards required across industries nationwide (Karthick et al. 2022). Inclusive but not limited to adequacy/availability basics such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) stockpiles/responsiveness when need arises-especially because seldom does disaster strike overnight most times. It's also tricky preventing substandard employee behaviors amongst some workforce groups who may underestimate dangers inherent with certain types tasks assigned them until incidents happen causing injury/damage (Kreshpaj et al. 2020). Overall impact company profitability/work-output negatively affected since no one foremost wants accidents happening liability concerns other related issues consequently leading inefficiencies subsequently disturbed operations arising from inadequate comprehension/prioritization/cost management approaches towards understanding appropriate covering pre-existing incidences cost containment strategies like insurance premiums/budgetary allowances/source allocation bases needs analysis results indicate must support incident prevention assignments better comprehensive reports/investigations followed promptly whenever relevant occurrences experienced eventually whether injured treated/retrained if indeed required lessons learnt written document form shared rest organization thus improving future performances all levels efficiency outcome stakeholder satisfaction business reputation/general perception customers towards the business.

A solution is a holistic approach to occupational health and safety. It aims for optimal performance by creating systems that actively identify potential hazards while implementing practices or interventions necessary to safeguard employees within their work environments (Long and Cooke, 2023). Some of these strategies include training activities aimed at increasing worker awareness about risk factors they face on any given day especially with regards current events nationally/internationally; establishing consistent procedures active overall audits regular internal inspection processes specialized committees including but not limited Safety-sensitized Teams/Committees (SSTC) overseeing everyday operations whose members have specific roles geared ensuring workplace integrity accuracy reporting significant incidents as those occur agreeing independent bodies with good standing such accreditation agencies validates them.
